Welcome
to the amazing world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or
STEM for short. STEM is one of the four strands belonging to the Academic track
of the new K to 12 Curriculum as the new education system here in the
Philippines where two more years were added to the usual four years of high
school. This additional two years is called Senior High School (SHS).
As what we can
see with the words forming the acronym of STEM, we can instantly know that this
strand focuses mainly on offering subjects such as Pre-calculus, Advance
Calculus, General Biology, General Physics and other subjects related to Math
and Science. In accordance to this, STEM suits perfectly for those who are
planning to take courses like engineering or medicine in the future.
Meanwhile, let’s
discover more about the strand STEM. As what is said earlier, STEM is a strand
included in the Academic track that prepares a SHS student who wants to take a
course in college that focuses on the natural world, such as Bachelor of
Science. Included to this strand, in addition to the areas enumerated forming
its acronym are the Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Information
Technology. The specialized subjects included in this strand are the following:
Pre-calculus, Basic Calculus, General Chemistry 1, General Chemistry 2, General
Physics 1, General Physics 2, General Biology 1, and General Biology 2. On the
other hand, the core subjects of STEM and other strands are Oral communication,
21st century literature from the Philippines and the world, Media and
information literacy, General mathematics, Earth science, Introduction to
philosophy of the human person, Physical education and health, and more.
"The Art of Architecture"
After knowing some important information about the track STEM, let us now move on in knowing the amazing world of architecture. Architecture is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings and other physical structures. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art. There will be none of the greatest structures of the world without the great architects behind those.
Here are some examples of blueprints of the most famous architectural structures of all time:
Here are some examples of blueprints of the most famous architectural structures of all time:
This is the blueprint of the Golden Gate Bridge located in San Francisco, California and Marin County, California, and United States (U.S.). It is a suspension bridge with a total length of 8,981 ft (2,737.4 m); a height of 746 ft (227.4 m); and a width of 90 ft (27.4 m).
On the other hand, this is the Empire State Building located in New York City. It has a total of 102 floors with a height of 1250 ft. (381.0 m). Its length (east-west) is 424 ft (129.2 m) while its
width (north-south) is 187 ft (57.0 m).
This is the blueprint of the Eiffel tower located in Paris, France. It has a height of 300 m (984 ft.).
It's amazing that all of the beautiful architectural structures we often see are once only drawn in papers but has now come to life. In the future, it is very possible that many other buildings and structures will be made by the help of our tomorrow's architects who are currently studying the track of STEM. Thanks to the K-12 Curriculum, students who are aspiring to be architects like me can improve themselves a lot as they discover many things before they step up to college and learn even more.
